Overview
The goal of this study guide is to provide STREAM TEAM or any Missouri middle school educators, with a framework for a watershed-based study guide which ties together the interdependent relationships between watersheds and their geology, flood plains, wetlands, riparian corridors, stream banks, stream channels, aquatic habitat, water quality, aesthetics, and streams and society. The lessons are categorized according to these topics. This study guide is designed primarily for middle school students. Lessons can be adjusted to meet the grade level, interests and abilities of your particular students. This study guide is designed to be used in conjunction with existing district curriculum or as a stand alone resource. Extension activities can be incorporated to expand the study guide. Those who work within the confines of time, district resources, student needs and abilities, and geographical factors will appreciate the versatility of this study guide. Individual lessons can be extracted from this guide to supplement existing curriculum with similar objectives. This study guide allows you the flexibility to do what you do naturally—add, subtract, and adapt materials to suit your particular circumstances. The abstracts in the front of each lesson provide a quick reference to inspect the lesson. These abstracts include Show-Me Performance Standards correlations for Science (SC), Social Studies (SS), Communication Arts (CA), Fine Arts (FA), and Mathematics (MA) and the current Grade Level Expectations (GLE’s) for 6th grade Science. (2005 final D.E.S.E.). Each section of the study guide provides introduction information pertaining to the topics as well as specific resources if you need additional information. A glossary and list of resources and references are included at the end of the study guide. We hope you will use the STREAM TEAM study guide and enjoy what it teaches. We are interested in your comments, suggestions, corrections, and additions after you have taught the lessons. This is the second edition of the study guide and will always be a work in progress. Your comments will be considered in future updates. We apologize upfront for any resemblance to existing publications. This is purely coincidental. There are no original ideas, only old ones re-worked. This Activity Guide is not for sale and is free to anyone who wishes to use it.
